Yew Tree Primary School

PE and Sports Funding

Primary PE and Sport Premium is an initiative that aims to help increase and improve the PE and sporting opportunities for children. It was first provided in the 2013/14 academic year and the current government has pledged to continue this funding until 2020.

PE and Sport Premium funding is provided jointly by the Department for Education, the Department for Health and Culture and the Department for Media and Sport.  It has been allocated to primary school headteachers and is ring-fenced, meaning that it can only be spent on the provision of PE and sport in schools.

Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport offered.

This means that you should use the premium to:

  • develop or add to the PE and sport activities that your school already offers
  • build capacity and capability within the school to ensure that improvements made now will benefit pupils joining the school in future years

Objectives:

To achieve self-sustaining improvement in the quality of PE and sport in primary schools against 5 key indicators:

  1. The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – kick-starting healthy active lifestyles
  2. The profile of P.E and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement
  3. Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
  4. Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
  5. Increased participation in competitive sport.

Our Vision:

Is to create an environment which encourages all children to be active and have positive attitudes towards physical activity and healthy lifestyles. All pupils leave our school physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.
